Importance of Standards

Are standards important when seeking to measure a goal?  Are they neccessary to achieve the goals that one seeks to achieve?  Well, when teaching, one must be able to follow a guideline that may assist with teacher gain and student achievement.  After browsing through the Alabama Technology Standards for teachers and students the two that I could most relate to as student and teacher were:

42(4)(d) (viii)-  Design, manage, and facilitate learning experiences incorporating technologies that are responsive to the diverse needs of learners, learning styles and the special needs of all students (e.g., assistive technologies for students with special needs).

As a teacher, it is important to be able to maneuver throughout the course of each lesson and identify with all learners, on all levels, in all settings.  Regardless of whether a student is classified as “special needs learner” or not, it is imperative that as an educator, students feel comfortable and are given every opportunity to learn.  The 21st Century embarks on innovative technology and tools that encourage advanced and creative learning experiences.  As educators, we must find what works for each of our students and apply our expertise to enlightening their creative minds through technology.

42(4)(d)1(x)- The resources for enhancing professional growth using technology (for example, through assessing web-based information, on-line collaboration with other educators and experts, and on-line professional courses).

Though this standard applies to professional growth of a type, all individuals, regardless of education status, professional field, career choice, or personal choice has an opportunity to gain knowledge of technology and the changes within the field. The emergence of technology occurs often and it is for the benefit of most to become aware of the changes because most aspects of current society involves many aspects of technology.  Whether learning how to use a computer, digital camera, mouse, keyboard, Ipod, MP3 player, projector, television, DVR player, digital clock, timer, ATM, blackboard, smart-board etc., the advancement is necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.  Why get left behind when there are so many avenues that lead to technology.  Having the know-how is great, finding ways to use what you know is greater!

Why Write?

Why do we write? Is it to satisfy our emotions, or to heal our pain? Is it to express our hidden innards? Can we really mend our broken-hearts with what we desire? Or do we hold it in and let it burn us like fire? From where do we get this desire? Sometimes it makes us wonder. Why do I write? Writing if you can ever love again, does my heart yearn for more in life, or what drives me crazy, does it have anything to do with why I do it? My ups and downs sometimes can make me frown, but can the pain and agony really be gone? Do we imagine the pain leaving as we express our tragedies on the paper in front of us? Why, why, oh why!?            But why not write! Use the paper as your heart and the pen as your soul and revive your mind from whatever has impaired your feelings. But is it just you imagining everything gone? So why? Is it to question what life has in store for you in the future, whether you will become what someone else had destined you to be? From time to time you have to ask yourself, why do I write?

Frank’s Psycho-Analysis

Psycho-analysis~All About Me

My being is more than the flesh the shrouds my body. I am a spiritual being who is clashing with that flesh for a higher calling than temporary fulfillment, short-term accomplishments and mortal acceptance.

There is more to my April 4, 1990 conception than me, Frank E. Chestnut III or my parents, Frank II and Jacinta Chestnut, although I believe I was purposely born to them, so that they could be guides, nurturers and a means of loving support. I am more than earthly achievements and attributes, but if the direction of my attention seems to completely shun the earthly, then I have unfortunately misled. For only through the earthly route can I achieve the immortal gift of the spiritual.

On this earth, I do strive for excellence: socially and personally.

My striving for social excellence entails my inter-personal relationships and just sheer interaction with people. I try to deal with people just as I would have them interact with me. Whether there is a need for a gentle explanation, patience, direct observation, honesty, fairness, justice, enlightenment, etc. I attempt to effectively and considerately interact with people regardless of our differences. I think that we, as people, are here to support and strengthen each other and if that were so, we would not naturally seek the comfort of others—other people. We are inherently social creatures and should follow Christ’s example in interacting with one another.

I equate my personal striving for excellence with the anonymous author who is quoted as saying, “My signature is a guarantee of quality.” In school, work, volunteer projects, and home, if my name is associated with it, then I insure quality. I simply believe, when nothing else can stand, our good name, full of integrity, should be able to stand alone.

In the long run and for the eternal, my main objective is to lead a life that fulfills my purpose, which is to love God with my total being, love my neighbor as myself, teach or share the knowledge I have gained and serve my fellow man.
